Our journey on the Lofoten Islands Photo Tour kicks off with a meet-up at Leknes Airport, Norway. Arriving at night, we’ll head straight to our accommodation to rest up. But stay alert, as we’ll be on the lookout for the Northern Lights. If the skies are promising, we’ll venture out to capture this awe-inspiring phenomenon. Otherwise, we’ll rest up, ready to check conditions throughout the night and wake you if the auroras make an appearance.
An early start takes us to Uttakleiv Beach for our first sunrise session. Here, we’ll photograph the surrounding fjords bathed in golden morning light, with the beach’s rocks and ponds providing the perfect foreground. After breakfast, we journey towards the Hamnoy and Reine villages. The route, filled with photogenic stops like Vareid and Skagsanden Beach, will take longer but be worth every minute. Our day ends at a stunning viewpoint near Reine for sunset and blue hour, followed by a potential Northern Lights chase.
We’re off to Hamnoy at sunrise to capture its iconic bridge and village, set against a stunning fjord backdrop. Then, it’s on to the picturesque Sakrisoy for breakfast and photography, with its charming cabins and emerald waters. After hours exploring Sakrisoy, we return to Hamnoy for another sunset session, then dinner, and remain on standby for Aurora Borealis photography.
Another early morning sees us back at Sakrisoy for sunrise. A hike to a nearby hill offers spectacular panoramic views. We’ll spend ample time here before heading to Reine to photograph the picturesque fishermen cabins and fjord peaks. Sunset takes us back to Hamnoy, followed by a hill hike for a stunning blue hour panorama, and then, readying for another Northern Lights opportunity.
We revisit Reine’s scenic viewpoint for a magical sunrise, aiming for dramatic cloud and light interplay. Post session, we drive west to Å, the archipelago’s farthest village, with photo stops along the way to capture seascapes and icy rock formations. Sunset finds us east of Hamnoy, in a prime spot for panoramic shots, followed by a Northern Lights vigil, weather permitting.
Today’s dawn shoot is at a stunning wooden bridge in Reine. We’ll spend the day revisiting favorite spots and discovering new ones, with a sunset session planned at Skagsanden Beach. The day ends with a chance to photograph the Northern Lights once more.
We’ll start early to capture sunrise en route to Leknes, including a visit to the famous Nusfjord village. Our journey continues to Ballstad, Hauckland, and Uttakleiv beaches, culminating in a sunset session at Uttakleiv. The evening includes dinner and a final chance to photograph the Northern Lights.
Our final day starts with an early trip to Leknes Airport, marking the end of our Lofoten Islands Photo Tour. Depending on flight schedules, we might squeeze in a last sunrise session at Hauckland Beach, and possibly a visit to Leknes church.
For enthusiasts, we offer a 3-day photo tour extension, visiting unexplored Lofoten villages like Henningsvaer and Svolvaer, and revisiting certain spots under different light conditions. We’ll continue our quest for the Northern Lights, seizing every opportunity to capture this stunning display.

The Lofoten Islands Photo Tour is suitable for nearly everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.
Our journey involves only brief, simple hikes, typically lasting no more than 5 minutes. There is one slightly longer hike, about 10 minutes up a hill, but it’s not strenuous, and you have the option to opt out if you wish. As long as you’re comfortable with a few minutes of walking, you’re invited to join us. Despite the cold and snowy conditions, this tour will be predominantly easy.
Furthermore, there’s no age restriction for participating in the tour, provided your health and physical condition are in reasonable shape.
No minimum photography skill level is required for participating in the Lofoten Islands Photo Tour. Whether you’re not a professional photographer or lack extensive camera experience, this trip welcomes you. Our photo tours cater to all skill levels, including beginners and those new to photography. We often have participants capturing moments with just their smartphones.
A key feature of our tour is personalized attention. We’re dedicated to assisting you in capturing the best images possible, irrespective of your current skill level. Our goal is to help you improve and grow as a photographer!
On the Lofoten Islands Photo Tour, expect predominantly very cold weather, which is manageable with proper preparation. Average temperatures range from 14º to 36º Fahrenheit (-10º to 2º Celsius). Strong winds common in the area may make it feel even chillier, and snow is likely during this time of the year.
It’s essential to come fully equipped for these conditions. A high-quality down jacket or parka is necessary to keep you warm. Dressing in layers is also advisable, allowing you to adjust to varying temperatures. Additionally, a Gore Tex jacket or something similar is recommended for snowy conditions. Snow boots are ideal for most of the journey. Upon confirming your booking, you’ll receive a guide with a recommended gear list for this Lofoten Islands Photo Tour.
On the Lofoten Islands Photo Tour, like most of our excursions, meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are not included. This approach offers us the utmost flexibility during the trip, allowing us to prioritize photography.
Since we will be staying in cabins equipped with kitchens, we plan to purchase groceries from supermarkets. Many of our meals will be at the cabins due to the limited number of restaurants in the area, most of which are closed at midday. Breakfasts will typically be in the cabins, though we may occasionally eat out. As sunset occurs early, we often skip a traditional lunch, opting for a sandwich or fruit instead, and have dinner in the evening. While most dinners will be at the cabins, we’ll also dine out at times.
Throughout the trip, there will be plenty of chances to savor the exquisite Norwegian cuisine. The region is renowned for its fantastic fish, but there are also tempting meat options available!
Our primary method of payment for the tour is via bank transfer. However, we also offer alternative payment options for your convenience, including credit or debit card, PayPal, or Transferwise. Please be aware that these alternative methods may incur a commission fee. Feel free to inquire about these various payment options.
If you opt to pay using a credit or debit card, or via PayPal, you can complete your payment online at the end of the booking process. For those choosing a bank transfer, simply proceed with your booking using this method. Upon completion, you will receive an email containing all necessary instructions and bank details for the transfer.
On our Lofoten Islands Photo Tour, guests typically stay in traditional fishermen cabins, which have been updated with modern facilities. Each cabin is equipped with a private bathroom, living room, and a fully functional kitchen. These cabins are shared among four participants, with separate rooms for two people each, furnished with twin beds.
If you are traveling with someone, we will endeavor to accommodate both of you in the same cabin and, if feasible, in the same room within the cabin. For solo travelers, roommates will be assigned from among the other trip participants, ensuring that each room in the cabin is shared by individuals of the same gender. Additionally, there is an option to choose a single room for an extra fee. Please contact us for further details and options.
This Lofoten Islands Photo Tour welcomes participants from any country, regardless of their residence. Our primary travel agency is based in Santander, Spain, but our tours are accessible to clients globally. As a result, you may find fellow travelers from diverse locations on our photo tours.
The tour commences at Leknes Airport in Norway. All participants are required to arrive there on the first day of the tour, traveling directly from their home country. There’s no need to journey to another country or city to join a group flight to Leknes; participants should arrange their travel independently to meet at the starting point in Norway.
Upon confirming your booking for the Lofoten Islands Photo Tour, we’ll promptly send you detailed trip information, including a comprehensive PDF guide on recommended gear. This guide covers not just photography equipment, but also essential clothing and accessories suitable for the tour. Essentially, we’ve got you covered; our experienced photo leaders and guides will inform you about everything you need to ensure you enjoy your trip to the fullest.
As an initial piece of advice, we recommend bringing a light-colored down or shell jacket in shades like red, orange, yellow, or light green. Such a jacket will not only provide protection against the cold and rain but also ensure you look fantastic in photographs taken at some of Lofoten’s most stunning locations!
For the first time, I signed up for a photo tour in search of new landscapes and experiences. The truth is that I’ve returned with all that and much more. Sergio, Julio, and Luis are great professionals, passionate about their work and always attentive to the client’s needs. But above all, they are excellent people who make you feel, literally, at home, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie far more valuable than the best auroras of Hamnøy. Friends, a thousand thanks for this fantastic adventure, and see you soon on the next one!
Great trip by workshopsphototours.com to a fantastic destination, with the perfect preparation and execution that distinguish this company. As always, locations were chosen based on light to achieve the best photographic results, always with an alternative if weather conditions required it. Also, as always, among the pre-selected places, there were countless spontaneous photo stops, also catering to the individual wishes of the group members. All this is the result of the total commitment and dedication of Sergio Lanza and his colleagues Julio Castro and Luis Vélez. But what stands out the most is the unsurpassable human quality of Sergio and his team. They are always attentive to the needs of each participant, whether those are photographic issues – being great photographers themselves and sharing all their knowledge so that their clients can get the best possible photos – or whether it’s needing a helping hand to reach a spot or assistance with the equipment, always very kind and cordial, creating an atmosphere of friendship and well-being. Always in good spirits and always ready for any extra effort to make the trip a complete success. Thank you for your way of being and doing, and until the next trip!
The truth is that this trip has been a complete experience in every sense. I want to thank Sergio, Julio, and Luis for the enthusiasm and effort they put into everything. I highly recommend taking this trip with them. I can only say that I am already thinking about the next one…
The trip has been spectacular, it has more than met my expectations. A ten out of ten to the organization of the trip, which at all times made sure we returned home with the best photos, they looked after our safety and at all times were concerned about the participants of the workshop in all aspects, safety, logistics, places to photograph, etc. We will see each other on another trip.
Best regards.
Back from this magnificent and wonderful trip full of unforgettable moments. The cold, wind, snow, rain, and fatigue don’t matter when you have the privilege of contemplating the wonderful light and landscapes of the Lofoten Islands. This was my first trip with Sergio and his team, and I couldn’t be happier for having listened to my friend Antonio, who recommended I travel with them. About Sergio, I can only say that he is a professional of the highest caliber, a great photographer, and a person of great human quality. Always seeking the best locations, the best light, and sharing his passion for what he does and lives intensely. About the rest of the team, Julio and Luis, I have no words to thank them for their dedication, affection, and care. I was also lucky to travel with a group of unknown people, but sharing two passions: Photography and nature. A group where good vibes, laughter, and camaraderie prevailed. In summary: an absolutely recommendable trip accompanied by a group of professionals and even better people. Looking forward to sharing new adventures with them. Thanks, guys.
